Install Licobox

This guide explains how to install licobox and getting started with it.

1. Install licobox with Homebrew

licobox can be installed using Homebrew package manager:

brew install licobox/licobox-tap/licobox

2. Install Docker CLI

Docker client is required to interact with Licobox docker engine, skip this step if you already have one. Install the Docker CLI along with Compose and Buildx plugins:

brew install docker docker-compose docker-buildx

Note

This Homebrew Docker installation only includes the CLI client and will not install the full Docker Desktop. We might bundle Docker CLI within Licobox in future releases to avoid this dependency.

3. Start licobox

Once licobox is installed, you can start licobox:

licobox start

It will be up and running within seconds.

Docker context is automatically switched to licobox. If it hasn’t switched, make sure to set the Docker context to licobox by running docker context use licobox

4. Running Container

Once licobox is started, run the following to get started:

docker run -d -it -p 3000:3000 ghcr.io/licobox/getting-started:latest

Once it’s up and running, visit http://localhost:3000 in your browser.

licobox is now running and can be used to manage Docker containers.

Note

If Local Network privacy dialog appears, you need to allow local network access to licobox or your terminal app (i.e Terminal or Ghostty), we only use the Local Network for our own virtual network. Restarting licobox may be required after allowing them.
